Art historical allusions abound in the remarkable variety of Cesar's photographs.

Stairway to Atlantis resembles work by French Impressionist Claude Monet. Mango has passages reminiscent of British Romantic painter J. W. M. Turner.

Cesar's wave photographs evoke poetic thought and emotional resonance. As such, they function as allegories, that is, as representations of abstract concepts in material form. Cesar's oceanic images are allegories of the full spectrum of human feelings. Some are peaceful, others inspiring, still others somewhat threatening. The power lies in her selection of a natural element--water--and allowing it to sing to our hearts.

Waves from around the world

Timeless sea breezes, sea-wind of the night; you come for no one; if someone should wake, he must be prepared to survive you.

Timeless sea breezes, that for aeons have blown ancient rocks, you are purest spacce coming from afar... Oh, how a fruit-bearing fig tree feels you coming high up in the moonlight.

Song of the Sea, Rainer Maria Rilke
